What We Do

Impact & Empowerment Focused

Since 1995, Pro Pride has been at the forefront of social change in Ethiopia. We take a holistic approach to development by bridging the gaps in health, education, and economic security. By empowering women, protecting vulnerable children, and strengthening local health systems, we don’t just provide temporary aid—we build the foundations for resilient, self-sustaining communities.

Community-Based Primary Health Care

Pro Pride expands access to essential health services for underserved communities, with a priority on women, children, and youth.

  • Key Services: We provide routine immunizations, growth monitoring, and integrated maternal health care including antenatal, postnatal, and safe delivery services.
  • Clinical Care: Through polyclinics in areas like Merkato and Entoto, we offer general medical consultations, laboratory exams, and essential drug dispensing.
  • Impact: Since 1996, over 133,459 community members have been served. To ensure long-term sustainability, our established clinics were successfully transitioned to government management in 2008.

We implement comprehensive initiatives to reach at-risk populations through clinical services, peer education, and media strategies.

  • Targeted Programs: Programs like TransACTION and MULU/MARPs focus on most-at-risk populations, providing HIV Counseling and Testing (HCT) and STI screening.
  • Drop-In Centers (DICs): We operate specialized centers that provide integrated clinical services, treatment for HIV-positive individuals, and structural support like community saving groups.
  • Recent Achievement: In 2018 alone, Pro Pride reached 27,589 key population members through peer education and delivered integrated clinical services to over 21,000 individuals.

Pro Pride creates lasting opportunities for learners by expanding access to quality education for children and adults.

  • Girls’ Education: We provide financial support, materials, and mentoring to help girls transition in secondary and higher education.
  • Early Grade Reading: Our programs have reached 200,000 students, training over 4,000 teachers and distributing more than 590,000 reading books to improve comprehension skills.
  • Teach II: In areas  like Addis Ababa, Dire Dawa and Somali Region, we support Alternative Basic Education Centers (ABECs) and integrate WASH facilities to improve health and learning outcomes.

Since 1995, we have empowered vulnerable community members, particularly women, through economic strengthening.

  • Self-Help Group (SHG) Approach: Women organize into groups to receive training in savings, credit management, and leadership.
  • Microfinance: We established Gasha, a microfinance institution, to provide formal savings and credit services.
  • Scale and Impact: Over 5,000 women have mobilized more than Birr 5,000,000 in savings, enabling them to start and expand small businesses.

We are dedicated to the well-being of orphans and vulnerable children (OVC) and families affected by HIV/AIDS.

  • Target Group: Highly vulnerable children and their families.
  • Objective: To improve the holistic well-being and resilience of children through community-based support.
  • Strategic Approach: We utilize the PC3 and Yekokeb Berhan program models, integrating education, health, nutrition, psychosocial support, and legal protection with economic strengthening for caregivers.
  • Impact Achieved: Over 42,000 children and their families have been reached with comprehensive care, enabling them to build long-term livelihoods and sustainable resilience.
